Emily Shelley, CEO of The PA, has today written for The Times on the importance of trusted journalism and the vital role of the press in holding power to account.
In the article, Emily shares three broad solutions towards a more sustainable news industry, highlighting how transparency around sources is key to rebuilding the belief audiences should have in the news.
“First, there must be guaranteed access for professional journalists to do the dogged work, even if that means difficult questions for those in charge. Second, there should be a definition of public interest journalism beyond public service broadcasting that is professional, but truly free. Third, this definition should provide transparency for audiences on where their news originated, and on algorithmic choices that brought it to their attention.”
Earlier this week, the Press Association returned to its historic name, unveiling a new look for the news agency and its parent company, The PA.
